MUSICAL DISCOVERY
"Where music IS education"

After 15 years in music education as both a teaching artist and lecturer, Mr. Armienta has embarked on developing a
series of
music activity books and cds for classroom teachers and parents. The name of this endeavor is
Musical Discovery.

He states,
    Maestro Michael Morgan
Music Director of the Oakland East Bay Symphony
PARTNERING WITH
ORCHESTRAS AND OPERA
COMPANIES

As a composer, he has strived to incorporate into his work opportunities for
youth to participate as both creators and performers. Over the years, he
has been collaborated with organizations such as Opera Pacific, Pacific
Symphony, and San Francisco Opera to name a few.

Recently, he received a commission from the
Oakland East Bay Symphony
as part of the Words & Music Project (and funded by The James Irvine
Foundation). This world premiere will bring together the creative forces of
Mr. Armienta and several young poets, who will be selected by California
Poets in the Schools. The work is scheduled to premiere in March 2005.

In the field of opera, he has was commissioned in 1995 by Opera Pacfic to
compose a work,
Un Camino De Fe,  based on a true story a young girl and
her family's journey to the United States.
His children's opera, the
Coyotes and the Rabbit/sLos Coyotes y las
Conejas
, based on a Mexican Folk tale,  is currently touring in Texas. ,
Forth Worth Opera is performing the work throughout schools in the Forth
Worth area for a third year.
Over the years, I have come across a great deal of well written educational material and songs that were
designed for music teachers to use with their students. However, if I were a classroom teacher or parent
with little or no musical background and wanted to provide an exciting musical learning experience to my
children, I wouldn’t no where to start.
The goals are simple and straightforward:
* The activities should be fun!
* Introduce the fundamentals of music in a simple
and sequential manner.
* A fool proof method that ANYONE can follow.
* Make a music and curriculum connection.
* Draw on the standards as outlined by the California
Department of Education.
* Provide many opportunities for the children to sing,
move, and draw ( I.e. multiple modes of learning).
