Serafina, one of Maria’s servants, tells her that men can
not be trusted.
LADY OF SPAIN
The servants are playfully teasing Sara, Maria’s daughter.
They make pretend that Sara is a sophisticated lady of Spain.
REMEMBERING
Antonio, Maria’s husband, has just scolded her and Maria
reminisces on happier days in their relationship.
TRUST HIM
Maria tells Serafina that she should have more faith in men,
though it is clear she has her own doubts.
WHAT FUN YOU AND I WILL HAVE
Don Rafael describes to his younger protégé,
Antonio, how they will hunt down the Indian rebels.
FREE TO LIVE
Sara tells her mother that the Xochil forest is
a place of enchantment.
