Ultima, a curandera ( healer) teaches a young boy about the power of the natural world and  magical world as he discovers his destiny. 


The opera is based on Rudolfo Anaya's epic novel of the same title. The novel has  become the most widely read and critically acclaimed novel in the Chicano literary canon since its first publication in 1972. In 2013, it was made into a movie and received critical acclaim.
