Zorro - The Opera

Justice is spelled with a “Z.”

A fading empire clings to power and the oppressed and destitute dream of freedom. One man will lead them - Zorro

THE STORY

Zorro is an opera set in the early nineteenth century, amid political upheaval in Spain and México. A young man returns from Spain to his birthplace of el pueblo de Los Ángeles, where he confronts corruption and injustice, rekindles a forbidden love, and awakens to his destiny as Zorro — a masked figure who becomes a symbol of resistance, justice, and hope.

LECTURES & EDUCATIONAL ENGAGEMENT

In conjunction with productions of Zorro, I regularly present lectures and discussions for opera companies, universities, and students. These sessions explore the historical background of the opera, the compositional and dramaturgical process, and the ways in which history, myth, and cultural identity inform contemporary opera.

This work has included both in-person and online lectures, often offered in preparation for production or as part of academic coursework and community engagement. An online lecture version of this material is also available for institutions and individuals seeking deeper engagement with the opera.
